Only a few cities in world could rival the cultural and historical significance of the Vatican. Aside from being the seat of Pope, the museums and libraries of Vatican is one of the most extensive as it dates back even before the middle ages. Practically the world’s history are carefully chronicled and kept in the Vatican library. The structures of the Vatican are also very impressive as none other than the renowned masters became the architects of these massive structures. Sculptures, paintings and artifacts are never lacking in the Vatican.

Because of the cultural significance of Vatican, it is no wonder that the city will always be teeming with tourist in any given month.

You’ll have to constantly deal with lines if you want to visit the most popular sites of the Vatican. Easter and Holy Week is probably the peak season for tourists as Roman Catholics visit the city for pilgrimage and the blessing of the Pope on Easter.

A city full of tourists could be a little bit intimidating for an inexperienced traveler. But Vatican is not just based on a few historical sites. Aside from the well known St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum, there are probably hundreds of churches that you can visit – each of them has an interesting story to tell. With regards to accommodation, stay a little bit farther from the city or stay in one of the hostels run by the nuns. The accommodation is not first class but your basic necessities are met.

  1. I went to the Vatican a few times to get it all in. I found visiting the Vatican about lunch time the cues wernt as long, but you do need a hat and sunblock as theres no shade wile you wait and you’ll see alot of red faces around Roma. But once your inside its nice and cool. If you really want to visit in the morning….go hours early or bring something to do wile you wait. Oh and there not a fan of non-covered shoulders and above the knees.
