A way to travel cheap is backpacking. You won’t spend a lot on accommodation, you will find cheap hostels on your way and you will live new experiences for less. Here are a few travel tips when you are backpacking:
Before leaving home find out as many details as you can about the country you travel to, its population and culture. On your way find free Internet access places to stay informed or search for details (public libraries have that in many countries). Also it is good to learn something about your country (if you do not remember much from school) just in case a foreigner will ask you a question about your home country.
Always pack some insect repellent lotion and a pair of cheap plastic flip flops to use in the shower at your hostel. If you are travelling with children pack their stuff in kids school bags, they are perfect for clothes, footwear and bits and bobs.
Go to the Tourist Information Centre in the cities you are visiting. They will tell you about free events you can attend or free museums you can visit. If you are travelling in the summer you will find a lot of free festivals, fairs and events to attend in most countries you intend to visit.
Don’t forget to enjoy your holiday and take pictures. Recording in a notebook the countries and the places you see as well as the interesting people you meet will prove to be valuable for you years after your trip.
