Playa de las Americas was built in 1960 with imported sand from Africa. The local sand is of volcanic nature and is darker, that is why the golden sand was brought to the beaches of las Americas.
The closest airport is Tenerife South – 30 minutes away by car.

Playa de las Americas is known to be the center of nightlife in the Canaries. The most famous clubs and bars are in Veronicas strip, the Patch and Starco.
