Travelling Cheap

Cheap travel is becoming  more important now that fuel prices have gone through the roof.  In fact, when you take a look at the airfares that are available today the one inescapable conclusion is that even discount airfares are now beginning to go up.  Over the long term there is no fix for this and that is why the savvy cheap traveller must look elsewhere to offset the increased costs they are going to end up incurring as a result of the increased price of travel.

The most obvious place to look at when considering offsets for this added airfare is the accommodations you enjoy.

The accommodations usually end up being the largest part of a vacation’s expenses and is usually always in the top two with airfare unless there is a massively expensive event that you visit while on vacation.  Many people have become used to having lavish accommodations and while giving those up and going down a level in order to save a few dozen dollars a night might seem a bit cruel, it is also the easiest way to maintain the overall integrity of your vacation and still save enough money to offset increased airline ticket prices.

The trends are already going in this direction.  Tourist numbers in the world’s biggest resorts were down but at the same time there were usually discount hotels nearby that ended up getting a boost because of their cheaper rates.  Discount hotels are usually better bang for the buck anyway considering the massive drop in price and the less than massive drop in service.  This is a fact that many travellers are starting to realize for the first time.
