In Rome, Easter is a really big holiday. Not just in Rome, actually, but in the whole Italy. The people here take this event seriously – they attend religious processions the week before Easter and go to church on Easter Sunday. Even those who rarely visit the church come during Easter Sunday.
If you are in Vatican, you can attend the crowds for Urbi et Orbi message (”to the City of Rome and to the world”).
If you are in Rome during Easter, take note that they celebrate this with a family outing or with friends. They go out of Rome or to “fuori portaâ€, pick wild chicory and feast on roasted lamb and other traditional meals. This has been their tradition for so long that it’s rude not to follow how they celebrate it.
During the Easter meal, it’s traditional for them to open the meal with different kinds of salami and Lonza. Lonza is shaped like a salami but it’s meat from the back of the neck of a pig. and of course, Easter is not complete without eggs! They serve 2 eggs per person or 1 for others, depending so as it can be unhealthy to others to eat 2 eggs in one meal. They also serve fava beans that are eaten raw.
Although Rome has some unique traditions, you won’t really find it strange but mostly, it’s just the same. The main purpose for celebration is the same wherever you go and Easter should be fun and you should not be shy to have so much fun during this day. It’s the highest holiday for the Roman Catholics and where else should it best be celebrated than Rome itself?
Cheap flights to Rome start from £89. Accommodation is even cheaper: prices start from eur 10pp.

Ideally you should go with your family because Easter is celebrated in the family. If you travel alone, you will find a friendly Italian family to “adopt” you for the Easter period.
